May 2015

The month of May usually sees a marked reduction in the number of snake calls due to the commencement of the colder weather associated with the winter months. Although snakes become less active this time of year they are still out and about to maintain body temperature via soaking up some sunny rays.

Coastal Carpet Pythons are still the most commonly encountered species with Common Tree Snakes and Keelbacks also making appearances. Of the venomous snakes, Red-bellied Black Snakes were most commonly relocated with individuals picked up from Yamanto, Flinders View, Calamvale and Greenbank. A single (mildly venomous) Marsh Snake was also picked up from a business at Eagle Farm.
