Three possum species are found within the Greater Brisbane region. Only two species are generally associated with conflict scenarios in and around suburban homes.
The Common Brushtail Possum Trichosurus vulpecula is the most widespread and common of the three species. Abundant throughout all Brisbane suburbs, including the inner city this highly successful suburban dweller is noted for its ability to use a variety of niches within the constructed suburban landscape. The Mountain Brushtail Possum Trichosurus caninus is more confined to moister “outer” suburbs but will also utilise human dwellings and backyards as part of its feeding and refugia resource. It to will utilise dwellings in proximity to favored natural habitats. Click here for more Info
The Common Ring-tail Possum Pseudocheirus peregrinus is much smaller and far less intrusive generally utilising constructed dreys in thick vegetation rather than cause disruption around the home. Click here for more Info
